Three years ago, a Paesano Member came to me and said, “I don’t want use my paesano points for free food here. I’d rather donate them to a charity. Can you make that happen?” He had over 7,000 points.
Shocked at his generosity, I said, “of course.”
I wondered if more Paesanos may want to join in on this, so in the next month’s newsletter, I asked if anyone wanted to donate their points as well. By the end of the week, we had over 40,000 points donated!
I contacted Tara Nierenhausen, the founder of Community’s Child in Lomita, a non-profit organization that focuses on getting people back on their feet. Like me, she was shocked at the generosity of our Paesanos to help out the community. Gaetano’s matched all the donated points and we brought the hot food to their location where we fed over 1,000 people!
Throughout this pivotal year, Community’s Child has contributed to the success and happiness of so many, but they know they wouldn’t have been able to help so many if it weren’t for the strong efforts of their volunteers. This year we are going to feed the tireless volunteers that have given happiness to so many. A sort of “Thank You” to them. For social distancing purposes, the volunteers will pick the food up and heat it at home themselves.
