Which fruits and vegetables will you choose at the grocery store the next time you go? Try a couple of these Spring favorites to enjoy them at their peak flavors:
- Artichokes
- Artichokes should be the “poster child” for the Spring season. They are at their most abundant during the Spring. Getting to the heart of the large artichoke can be challenging, but worth the wait. Try baby artichokes for a more easy and full approach to enjoying the entire artichoke. All you have to do is boil them, then toss with EVOO and spices, then you’re good!
- Asparagus
- Roast, grill or sautee, asparagus is always a favorite. Use as a side dish or throw in your favorite pasta or rice dish.
- Green Beans
- Try Yellow Wax or Haricot Vert. Toss with caramelized onions for a great side dish.
- Fava Beans
- Shuck the beans out of this giant green bean and you’ll have a meal in itself.
- Morel Mushrooms
- This spongy mushroom is perfect for sautéing in EVOO and white wine. Toss in your favorite pasta or risotto.
- Tomatoes
- Tomatoes are juicy and plump! My favorite is eating them whole with a little balsamic and salt.
- Strawberries
- When you see a fresh Strawberry stand on the side of the road, stop (Palos Verdes Drive and Crenshaw)! They are amazing right now.
- Cherries
- Fresh cherries only come around for a short period of time and we’re in it. When you see cherries at the grocery store, grab some.
